Once again www.independent.ie is the largest online news publishing site in Ireland, according to the December 2011 comScore Media Metrix Newspaper category report. Independent.ie has achieved a superb ranking amongst the top 20 sites* in the country and is recognised for the second month in a row by comScore as being bigger than its nearest rival and competitor, Irishtimes.com. This follows a long period of very strong development and double digit Irish Traffic growth across Independent.ie since August ’11.

INDEPENDENT.IE is the highest Irish content app being downloaded on the Nokia store.

The Independent.ie app has a four-star rating while its nearest competitor in the Irish market receives a three-star rating. Reviews of the app are said to feature positive posts from users in the Nokia store.The app is designed to ensure easy navigation between articles without leaving the application and offers smartphone users ‘best in class’ usability and stability.

(Friday, 11th November 2011) The winners of the 2011 eircom Spider Awards were unveiled last night at a gala black-tie event in Dublin’s Convention Centre, hosted by well known comic and TV personality Dara O’Briain. Independent.ie was media partner for the eircom Spider Awards.

Ray Nolan was awarded the Internet Hero at the awards.

Online Adspend Surges Ahead to €65min the first half of 2011

Display format experiences highest level of growth at 41%year-on-year.

Online now 3rd highest among media advertising channels.

Irish online advertising has bucked the recession recording its highest level of growth at 20.5% in the first half of 2011 according to the bi-annual advertising spend study from IAB Ireland and PwC.

This year’s awards received over 250 entries and was opened up to entries from Facebook apps and iPad apps.

Other notable winners include the best business app - Adverts.ie, the best entertainment app - the 3Player, the best media app - TheJournal.ie, best sports app - the Lenister Rugby app and the best food app - Heinz BBQ.
